Website: http://www.veregoods.com/Vere, they have a good name and nice style. I was introduced to this fine company by my friend Feral (a rarity for people to point me to good chocolate rather than the other way around).
They have a more healthful take on chocolate than most, trying to use less sugar and more natural ingredients whenever possible. They are one of the few chocolatiers that I know who tout their vegan and gluten free lines. Even if they had an awful product I'd almost want to support them on principle, luckily they are pretty yummy to boot.
- Taste: 7 - They have some great and interesting flavor combinations but are not the best straight chocolate that I've had. There products are certainly well worth exploring and can be classified as some of the best in the US but are a little grainy at times. The flavors are good in general but fall a little flat times.
- Originality: 7 - You'll find what you are looking for here but for the most part they don't branch out into terribly experimental offerings. That being said I enjoy their selection of brownies including my favorite mint+nibs brownie. They also make it a point to include vegan and gluten free chocolate which they deserve some credit for.
- Packaging : 9 - These guys have style. The white boxes with large, striking pictures are about as elegant as I've seen in a chocolate presentation. I'll often send gifts from Vere, not because they have the best chocolate but because they make such an impressive statement.
- Overall: 8 - I really like Vere, they are one of those cool chocolatiers that you find out about and want to share with friends. I'm honestly hopeful that their quality will improve in time.
