Website: http://www.vosgeschocolate.com/I'm going to begin the list with my favorite American chocolate maker. I discovered Vosges at a small chocolate shop on 24th street in Noe Valley (to be discussed later). They make a number of products but my personal favorites are their gourmet bars (more specifically the Fire Bar). If you are looking for a quick fix they have stores in New York, Chicago, and Las Vegas. Enough prelude, onto the ratings (each number is out of 10):
- Taste: 8 - Well done chocolate, inevitably using high cocoa content. They experiment with a wide variety of flavor combinations and do a great job of balancing them without overpowering the chocolate flavor.
- Originality: 9 - They've been experimenting with flavors in chocolates for many years and have come up with some fascinating combinations. The most impressive part is that they are continuously coming up with new tastes (goji berries and sea salt anyone?). It is worth repeated visits to their website and stores to see what comes next.
- Packaging: 7 - Their packaging is interesting and stylish. In general it isn't the most memorable packaging with the notable exception of their gift boxes shipped in hat boxes and very well done. You have a friend that needs some chocolate? Send them one of these hat boxes.
- Overall Experience: 9 - Vosges does a great job. Consistently high quality combined with good availability (you can often find their bars at Whole Foods) means that I eat a lot of it. Their stores are fun to explore. They make great gift boxes. What more can you ask for?

I like your new blog, Greg. Vosges has *the* best (and most expensive) caramels in the world. I was really sad when the local Wholefoods stopped selling them.
